DEVELOPMENT OF A CORRECTION DEVICE FOR DIESEL INJECTION

ENTWICKLUNG EINER KORREKTURVORRICHTUNG FUER DIESELEINSPRITZPUMPEN

THE EXPECTED TIGHTENING-UP OF THE REGULATIONS CONCERNING THE PERMISSIBLE SMOKE EMISSION OF DIESEL ENGINES NECESSITATES A CONTROL SYSTEM FOR DIESEL FUEL INJECTION PUMPS FOR AUTOMATICALLY REGULATING THE INJECTION LIMITS. A DESCRIPTION AND GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION IS PRESENTED OF THE BASIC PARAMETERS OF SMOKE EMISSION, OF EARLIER ATTEMPTS AT IMPROVEMENTS AND OF THE NEWLY DEVELOPED APPARATUS. SEVERAL VARIANTS WERE WORKED OUT DURING THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS: THE PNEUMATIC, THE HYDRAULIC, THE MECHANICAL AND THE ELECTROMAGNETIC METHOD OF OPERATION. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONTROL SYSTEM, THE CONSTRUCTION OF TWO PROTOTYPES, BENCH TESTS ON INJECTION PUMPS AND RUNNING TESTS ON MOTORS IN THE TEST RIG AND IN VEHICLES PRODUCED BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SYSTEM READY FOR SERIES PRODUCTION, WHICH CAN BE FITTED TO EXISTING FUEL INJECTION SYSTEMS OF DIESEL ENGINES SO AS TO KEEP SMOKE EMISSION WITHIN THE PERMISSIBLE LIMITS.
