MOBILITY IN PASSENGER TRANSPORT

MOBILITAET IM PERSONENVERKEHR

AN EVALUATION IS MADE OF A RANDOM SAMPLE OF 4475 HOUSEHOLDS UNDERTAKEN IN SEPTEMBER 1975, AS PART OF A CONTINUING INVESTIGATION INTO TRANSPORT PATTERNS. THE CRITERIA INVESTIGATED ARE THE STRUCTURE OF THE PLACE OF RESIDENCE, HOUSEHOLD STRUCTURE, PERSONAL AND TRIP CHARACTERISTICS. DAILY TRIP FREQUENCIES AND TRIP LENGTHS PROVIDE THE REFERENCE POINTS FOR INDIVIDUAL TRANSPORTATION PATTERNS. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION IS GIVEN TO ROAD NETWORKS. THE ANALYSIS IS FOLLOWED BY A MOBILITY FORECAST FOR 1985 AND 1990. CORRELATION ANALYSIS IS SELECTED AS THE MAIN INSTRUMENT. IT SHOWS THAT PERSONAL MOBILITY IS PRIMARILY DETERMINED BY THE INDIVIDUAL'S POTENTIAL FOR MOBILITY, THE CONSTRAINTS PLACED UPON HIM BY HIS PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES AND HIS SOCIAL STATUS.
