THE BRAKING OF A MOTOR VEHICLE IN A SUPER-ELEVATED TRANSITION CURVE

THE DRIVING BEHAVIOUR OF A CAR IS EXAMINED FOR THE SITUATION WHERE THE VEHICLE IS BRAKED FOLLOWING AN EXCESSIVELY FAST ENTRY INTO A SUPER-ELEVATED CURVE (TRANSITION CURVE WITH ADJOINING CIRCULAR CURVE). THE DIGITAL SIMULATION IS BASED ON A FOUR WHEEL MODEL, IN WHICH THE RELATIVE MOVEMENTS OF THE VEHICLE CHASSIS ARE EFFECTED IN CONJUNCTION WITH SPECIAL WHEEL SUSPENSIONS. FROM THE ADHESION COEFFICIENT OF THE TYRES, ONE MAY DETERMINE WHETHER THE VEHICLE CAN FOLLOW THE CURVE REGULARLY DEPENDING ON THE POINT AT WHICH THE BRAKING COMMENCED AND THE MAGNITUDE OF THE BRAKING FORCE. FOR EACH SPEED, A PERFORMANCE GRAPH FOR VARIOUS DEGREES OF BRAKING DECELERATION MAY THUS BE DRAWN UP.
