AN ANALYSIS IS MADE OF THE CAUSE OF ROAD ACCIDENTS IN WHICH DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS WERE INJURIED IN THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY WITH WEST BERLIN DURING THE PERIOD 1962 - 1973. AFTER A SHORT REFERENCE TO THE RELATION BETWEEN MOTORISATION, ACCIDENTS AND ACCIDENT VICTIMS, THE CLASSIFICATION OF ACCIDENT CAUSES STEMMING FROM HUMAN RESPONSIBILITY IS CONSIDERED WITH THE HELP OF CORRELATION AND REGRESSION ANALYSES. FINALLY ACCIDENT CAUSES RELATING TO DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS ARE SPECIFIED IN CAUSAL GROUPS AND DEVELOPMENTS SUCH AS STOCHASTIC DEPENDENCE ARE REFERRED TO.
