MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF HAND AND FOOT FORCES OF DRIVERS

MINDESTANFORDERUNGEN AN DIE HAND- UND FUSSKRAEFTE BEI KRAFTFAHRERN

TRIALS WERE UNDERTAKEN USING A VOLKSWAGEN 1300 CAR OVER A 91 KM LENGTH OF INTER-URBAN ROAD AND A 22 KM LENGTH OF URBAN HIGHWAY WITH 31 TEST DRIVERS. RECORDS WERE MADE OF THE ACTIVITY FREQUENCIES, PERIODS AND FORCES FOR GEAR CHANGING AND BRAKING AS WELL AS THE AVERAGE AND MAXIMUM DRIVING ACTIVITY FORCES AND THEIR DISTRIBUTION. THE STRESS UPON THE DRIVER RESULTS FROM THE NUMBER OF MOVEMENTS, FROM THE DURATION OF INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES AND FROM THE NECESSARY FORCES USED IN THESE ACTIVITIES. THE RESULTS OF THE TRIALS ARE SHOWN IN DIAGRAMS WHICH REFER TO THE DIFFERENT SECTIONS OF THE TRIAL ROUTE AND TO THE INDIVIDUAL DRIVERS. TABLES AND COMPARATIVE VALUES OF A NUMBER OF VEHICLE TYPES ARE QUOTED IN ORDER THAT GENERALIZATIONS MAY BE MADE FOR OTHER MAKES OF VEHICLES, WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF AN ALGORITHM BASED UPON THE QUANTIFIED DYNAMIC DRIVER STRESSES DERIVED FROM THE VW 1300 TRIALS. IN THIS CONNECTION DISTINCTION IS MADE BETWEEN MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS (DEFINED BY THE SOMATIC STATE OF THE DRIVER).
