ANALYSIS OF COLLISIONS INVOLVING PEDESTRIANS AND PRIVATE CARS. THE "DISPERSION TRIANGLE" AS CONCEIVED BY SLIBAR AS A BASIS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE POINT OF COLLISION AND SPEED OF IMPACT

ZUR ANALYSE DER KOLLISION FUSSGAENGER/PKW: DAS "STREUUNGSDREIECK NACH SLIBAR" ALS GRUNDLAGE DER BESTIMMUNG VON KOLLISIONSORT UND KOLLISIONSGESCHWINDIGKEIT

A TECHNIQUE FOR DETERMINING THE POINT OF COLLISION AND SPEED OF IMPACT FOR THE ACCIDENT TYPE PEDESTRIAN/VEHICLE IS PRESENTED. THIS HAS ENABLED COMPREHENSIVE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS TO BE USED IN A VERIFIABLE FORM FOR THE FIRST TIME. BY USING THE ORDINATES AND ABSCISSAE OF THE CENTRE OF THE GIVEN DISPERSION TRIANGLE, THE TECHNIQUE PROVIDES A FULLY VERIFIABLE AND CREDITABLE STATEMENT REGARDING THE POINT OF COLLISION AND SPEED OF IMPACT. QUESTIONS RELATING TO ACCIDENT CAUSES SUCH AS THE AVOIDABILITY OF THE ACCIDENT AND EXCESSIVE SPEED CAN ONLY BE ANSWERED AFTER APPLICATION OF THE TECHNIQUE. VERIFIABILITY CANNOT BE ATTRIBUTED TO ANY EXPERIMENT FOR DETERMINING SPEED OF IMPACT OR THE INITIAL POINT OF COLLISION WHICH CALCULATES THE SPEED OF IMPACT ON THE BASIS OF DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE OR DETERMINES THE INITIAL POINT OF IMPACT ON THE BASIS OF "PRESUMED" BRANCHING SKID MARKS. ALL SUCH TECHNIQUES MUST BE REGARDED AS PURELY SPECULATIVE. THIS TECHNIQUE ALSO FACILITATES THE NUMERICAL-ANALYTICAL CONTROL OF STATEMENTS OBTAINED. THE DRAGGING OF THE PEDESTRIAN AND THE PHASES OF LATERAL ROLLING OVER THE FRONT OF THE CAR MAY BE ASCERTAINED WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE ANALYSIS. FOR ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS USUALLY REQUIRED IN EVIDENCE ON THE AVOIDABILITY OF AN ACCIDENT, THE METHOD DESCRIBED HAS FORMED THE STARTING POINT FOR EXPERT SUBMISSIONS.
