IN PRACTICE FOUNDATION SLABS ARE FREQUENTLY CONSTRUCTED WITH A SLOPING SURFACE. TESTS ARE TO BE CARRIED OUT TO SEE HOW THESE SLABS SHOULD BE REINFORCED AND WHETHER THEY HAVE ANY ADVANTAGES AS REGARDS BEARING CAPACITY OVER UNIFORMLY THICK SLABS. FOUNDATION SLABS HAVING SHEAR REINFORCEMENT HAVE AS YET HARDLY BEEN CONSIDERED EVEN THOUGH THE CONSTRUCTION OF THESE SLABS IS USUAL AS SOON AS SHEAR STRESSES EXCEED A DEFINED LIMIT VALUE.
