INTERIM RESULT: THE RESULT OF THE CONTINUOUS OSCILLATION TESTS IS ILLUSTRATED AS A WOEHLER LINE. IN SPITE OF THE UNDER-DIMENSIONING OF THE MIDDLE BARS WITH 33 PERCENT HIGHER STRESSES OPPOSING THE BUTT STRAPS, THE TEST SAMPLES BROKE IN THE BUTT STRAPS IN THE CROSS-SECTION B-B. THIS MUST BE CAUSED BY A PARTICULARLY HIGH CONCENTRATION OF STRESS AT THIS POINT, THE CAUSE OF WHICH ON THE ONE HAND MAY BE DUE TO THE CONDUCTION OF STRESS UNDER LOAD, AND ON THE OTHER HAND MAY RESULT FROM A WELDING STRESS (THE WELDED SEAM WAS MADE THROUGH THE BAR JOINT). THE WOEHLER LINE FOR THE BAR COULD BE RAISED ABOVE THE PRESENT VALUE OF APPROXIMATELY SIGMA (D) = 900 KP/SQ.CM, IF THERE WERE A CORRESPONDING IMPROVEMENT IN THE BUTT STRAPS. THE MEASURES NECESSARY FOR A FURTHER PROGRAMME OF TESTS ARE CURRENTLY BEING EXAMINED.
