THE OBJECT OF THIS WORK IS THE DETERMINATION OF A GENERALLY VALID SHEAR THEORY; IT WOULD BE THE CONDITION FOR MAKING THE NECESSARY PRACTICAL DESIGN METHOD MORE ECONOMICAL, AND WOULD ALSO HAVE THE ADVANTAGE THAT THE EFFECTS OF SIMPLIFICATIONS IN DESIGN AND INCORPORATION OF REINFORCEMENT COULD BE BETTER OBSERVED. AN ANALYSIS IS TO BE MADE OF TESTS DESCRIBED IN THE LITERATURE ON SHEAR-REINFORCED CONCRETE DEFLECTION MEMBERS, BY SYSTEMATIC STUDY OF THE PARAMETERS WHICH DETERMINE THE SHEAR PROBLEM.
