UNDERWATER BRIDGE FOR RIVER, CANAL AND SEA CROSSINGS BY UTILIZING THE BUOYANCY AND THE STEEL COATING AS A FLOATING BODY

DESIGN OF AN UNDERWATER BRIDGE WHICH WOULD PROVIDE A POSSIBLE ECONOMIC SOLUTION FOR UNDERWATER TUNNELS BY USING THE BUOYANCY AND THE COATING OF THE TUNNEL AS A FLOATING BODY. THE FOLLOWING POINTS HAVE TO BE CLARIFIED: A) DESIGN OF THE CROSS SECTION REQUIRED FOR THE FLOATING BODY; B) POSSIBLE FREE SPAN BY UTILIZING THE BUOYANCY AND FORMATION OF THE PLATE LINING; C) EXAMINATION OF THE POSSIBLE FOUNDATIONS; D) COMPARISON OF THE COSTS OF UNDERWATER BRIDGES AND SO-CALLED NORMAL UNDERWATER TUNNELS. THE RESEARCH WORK WHICH RELATES TO THE STEEL CONSTRUCTION AND THE STEEL FLOATING BODY IS BEING UNDERTAKEN BY PROF. DR.ING. STEINHARDT, TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF KARLSRUHE.
