AN INVENTORY OF THE INTERNATIONAL TEST PROCEDURES CURRENTLY IN USE FOR EVALUATING THE STABILITY OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES HAS SHOWN THAT IN THE SHORT TERM IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO REPLACE THE IMPRESSION TEST WITH A FLAT PUNCH FOR GUSSASPHALT BY MEANS OF A SUITABLE PROCEDURE.TESTS ARE TO BE CARRIED OUT TO DETERMINE THE SPACE OF TIME AND TESTING TEMPERATURE BEST SELECTED FOR DETERMING THE PENETRATION DEPTH,AND THE INSTRUMENTS WHICH HAVE TO BE IMPROVED IN ORDER THE KEEP THE DISPERSION OF THE MEASURING RESULTS AS SMALL AS POSSIBLE.AS THE ACCURACY OF THE TEST PROCEDURE IS ALSO INFLUENCED BY THE TYPE AND MANUFACTURE OF THE SAMPLES,AN ATTEMPT IS TO BE MADE TO DETERMINE WHETHER IT WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS TO REPLACE THE CUBE SAMPLE WHICH HAS AN ARRIS LENGTH OF 70,7 MM BY A CYLINDRICAL SAMPLE HAVING A DIAMETER OF 100MM AND A HEIGHT OF 50MM.
