SHEAR STRENGTH OF PRESTRESSED MORTAR JOINTS

THE PRESTRESSED MORTAR JOINT IS FREQUENTLY USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF PRECAST SECTIONS. THERE HAS NOT YET BEEN A SUFFICIENT EXPLANATION OF THE ADHESION IN THESE JOINTS, TAKING ACCOUNT OF THE JOINT THICKNESS. THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS HAVE TO BE INVESTIGATED: (1) ARE THE INCLINED COMPRESSION STRUTS IN THE WEB OF BEAMS ABLE TO BE PLACED OVER THE JOINTS? (2) IS THE SHEAR REINFORCEMENT IN THE WEB, WHEN PRESTRESSED MORTAR JOINTS EXIST, STRESSED DIFFERENTLY THAN WHEN THE CONSTRUCTION PARTS ARE MONOLITHIC? (3) IS PROTECTION AGAINST CORROSION STILL GUARANTEED? ON FIVE GIRDERS THE JOINT THICKNESSES AND JOINT FILLERS (PLASTICS, CEMENT PASTE, FINE CONCRETE) ARE BEING VARIED. THE LOADING AND DESIGN OF THE BEAMS IS SUCH THAT A STUDY CAN BE MADE OF A CENTRE OF MOMENT WITHIN THE BEAM, TWO EQUALLY STRESSED AREAS, HAVING VARYING SHEAR SLENDERNESS, AND TWO DIFFERENT JOINT DESIGNS ON ONE BEAM.
