A STUDY OF THE IMPORTANT FACTORS IN THE FREEZING-THAWING CYCLE TESTING OF AGGREGATES AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A FREEZING-THAWING CYCLE METHOD WITH AUTOMATIC CONTROL OF THE TEST CYCLE

FOR AN EVALUATION OF THE PRESENT TEST METHODS, IT SEEMS NECESSARY TO INVESTIGATE THE MORE IMPORTANT FACTORS WHICH INFLUENCE THE RESULTS OF FREEZING-THAWING CYCLE TESTS. AMONG THESE FACTORS ARE THE NATURE OF THE WATER SATURATION OF MINERAL MATERIALS, THE NATURE, SPEED AND DURATION OF FREEZING, AND THE THAWING TEMPERATURE AND THE SPEED AND THE NUMBER OF TEST CYCLES, WHICH ARE TO BE INVESTIGATED INDIVIDUALLY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW TEST METHOD. TO ENSURE GOOD REPRODUCIBILITY IN THE FREEZING-THAWING TESTS IT IS NECESSARY TO DEVELOP A METHOD WITH AUTOMATIC CONTROL OF THE TEST CYCLE. THE REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLES OF ROCK SELECTED FOR THE INVESTIGATION WILL ALSO BE SUBJECTED TO FROST AND THAW CYCLES IN NATURAL CONDITIONS, IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH THE RELATION WITH PRACTICE AND TO LAY DOWN THE REQUIREMENTS.
