MULTI-LANE DRIVING

MEHRSPURIGES FAHREN

IN CONNECTION WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF THE NEW ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATIONS, THE QUESTION HAS AGAIN ARISEN, AS TO THE LOCAL CONDITIONS IN WHICH SIDE-BY-SIDE DRIVING, I.E. FREE CHOICE OF LANE, CAN BE PERMITTED. ON THE BASIS OF THE INSTITUTE'S TRAFFIC SIMULATING MODEL, MODELS ARE TO BE SET UP AND DIFFERENT SPECIFICATIONS FOR SIDE-BY-SIDE DRIVING AND DIFFERENT BEHAVIOUR PATTERNS OF ROAD USERS RESULTING FROM THESE SPECIFICATIONS ARE TO BE INTRODUCED IN THE FORM OF VARIABLE PROCEDURES INTO A 'NEUTRAL' BASIC MODEL. FOR EXAMPLE, IT WILL BE POSSIBLE TO INVESTIGATE THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE TRAFFIC BETWEEN THE LANES, THE SPEEDS ON THE INDIVIDUAL LANES, THE TRAFFIC LOAD WHICH CAN BE HANDLED, AND THE NUMBER OF LANE CHANGES PER KM. THE WORKING OUT OF THE INDIVIDUAL PARTS OF THE MODEL WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH A PSYCHOLOGIST AND A TRAFFIC LAWYER.
