TREND EXPERIMENTS ON THE PROBLEM OF WEAR ON CONCRETE ROADS DUE TO STUDDED TYRES

AN INVESTIGATION IS TO BE MADE INTO THE QUESTION AS TO WHETHER THE RESISTANCE OF CONCRETE ROADS TO WEAR BY STUDDED TYRES CAN BE IMPROVED BY MEASURES IN CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY SUCH AS CHANGING THE COMPOSITION OF THE CONCRETE AND/OR THE USE OF SPECIAL ADDITIVES WITHOUT IMPAIRING THE OTHER CHARACTERISTICS, SUCH AS RESISTANCE TO DEICING SALTS AND ANTISKID PROPERTIES. THE EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAMME PROVIDES FOR CHECKING OF THE PRESENT METHODS AND ON THAT BASIS, FOR AN OPTIMISATION OF THE CONCRETE TECHNICAL PARAMETERS, IN ORDER TO OBTAIN DIRECT INFORMATION FOR INCREASING THE RESISTANCE TO STUDDED TYRES. IN ADDITION, A BASIC STUDY IS TO BE CARRIED OUT TO FIND IF POSSIBLE EVEN MORE ECONOMIC METHODS OF IMPROVING THE RESISTANCE TO WEAR. FOR THE EXPERIMENTS, SLABS 15 CM THICK WITH AN AREA OF 2.0 X 2.0 M WILL BE USED. TO MAKE THESE, FIVE CONCRETES WITH DIFFERENT GRANULOMETRIES AND ALSO WITH DIFFERENT STONE AGGREGATES WILL BE STUDIED, SO THAT 16 DIFFERENT CONCRETES WILL BE SUBJECTED TO THE TESTS. THE TEST SPECIMENS WILL BE SUBJECTED TO WEAR TESTS. THIS WILL BE FOLLOWED BY AN ANTISKID TEST.
