RELATIONS BETWEEN TENSILE CORROSION, FOLDINGS AND ALTERNATIVE TORSIONS

RELACIONES ENTRE CORROSION BAJO TENSION, DOBLADOS Y TORSIONES ALTERNAS

IT IS GENERALLY BELIEVED THAT THE QUALITY OF A PRESTRESSING WIRE INCREASES WITH THE NUMBER OF FOLDINGS AND ALTERNATIVE TORSIONS. THE STUDY DESCRIBED AIMS AT EVALUATING THE VALUES OF THOSE TWO TESTS. AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO FIND A POSSIBLE CORRELATION BETWEEN TENSILE CORROSION AND THE NUMBER OF FOLDING AND TORSIONAL OPERATIONS, AND TO DISCOVER AN EXPLANATION TO THE HIGHER REQUIREMENTS EXISTING WHEN THERE IS A RISK OF CORROSION IN PRESTRESSED STRUCTURES. WIRE SAMPLES WERE OBTAINED FROM MANUFACTURERS; THE SAMPLES BEHAVED DIFFERENTLY IN THE PRESENCE OF TENSILE CORROSION. THE RESULTS OBTAINED SHOWED THAT NO SIMPLE RELATION EXISTS BETWEEN THE NUMBER OF FOLDING AND TORSIONAL OPERATIONS, AND THE DURATION OF THE CORROSION TEST ON WIRES WITH NO APPARENT SURFACE DEFECTS.
