SIMULATION MODEL OF A BUS ROUTE

MODELO DE SIMULACION DE UNA LINEA DE BUSES

IN THIS MODEL, THE JOURNEY IS PRESENTED AS A FIXED ROUTE WITH AN ORIGIN AND DESTINATION (TERMINUS) AND INTERMEDIARY STOPS. BUSES ARE STUDIED ALONG THE ROUTES, THE ALIGHTING AND BOARDING OF PASSENGERS BEING SIMULATED AT EACH STOP. PASSENGER ARRIVALS AT BUS STOPS FOLLOW POISSON'S DISTRIBUTION, THE MEAN OF WHICH DEPENDS ON EACH STOP. THE JOURNEY TIME BETWEEN STOPS IS ASSUMED TO BE A RANDOM VARIABLE WITH A SYMMETRICAL TRIANGULAR DISTRIBUTION AND TRAFFIC-RELATED PARAMETERS. MEASUREMENTS OF THE MEAN JOURNEY TIME AND VARIABILITY OF JOURNEY TIMES ARE OBTAINED, TOGETHER WITH WAITING TIME AT BUS STOPS, OVERALL JOURNEY TIME, NUMBER OF PASSENGERS CARRIED IN ONE VEHICLE, RATE OF USE AND AVERAGE EFFECTIVE FREQUENCY. THIS PAPER WAS PRESENTED TO THE 2ND ANDES TRANSPORT MEETING THAT TOOK PLACE IN CARACAS, 28TH JUNE, 1976.
