EXPERIMENTAL SECTION BETWEEN RICLA AND CALATORAO FOR THE STUDY OF SLAB ROADS

EL TRAMO DE ENSAYO RICLA-CALATORAO EN LA INVESTIGACION DE LA VIA EN PLACA

THE RENFE HAS STUDIED THE POSSIBILITIES OF USING TRACKS LAID ON CONCRETE SLABS TO OBTAIN HIGHER SPEEDS. THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PERMANENT WAY ON CONCRETE SLABS WHICH HAVE GIVEN GOOD RESULTS. A TEST SECTION OF 4.1 KM IN LENGTH HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED AS A CONTINUOUS SLAB OF THE BR TYPE. THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE SLAB HAS BEEN STUDIED FROM THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS: DYNAMIC RESTRAINT ON BENDS AND STRAIGHT SECTIONS; DIFFERENT TYPES OF ROAD BASE (FILL, LOOSE SOIL AND ROCK); TRAVERSING HARD ISOLATED SPOTS; SLABS OVER SEWERS AND BRIDGE DECKS; THERMAL STRESSES. THE TEST PROGRAMME DEALT EQUALLY WITH THE FOLLOWING POINTS: SURVEILLANCE OF THE CRACKS; QUALITY OF PAVEMENT AND SHOULDERS; LABORATORY TESTS; IN-SITU STATIC AND DYNAMIC TESTS; MEASUREMENT OF THE GEOMETRY OF THE PAVEMENT AND CONTROL BY THEORETICAL MODEL.
