MICROSTRUCTURE DES CIMENTS DE LAITIER

THIS PAPER WAS PRESENTED AT A CERILH CONFERENCE, 28TH JANUARY, 1976. THE AUTHORS PRESENT THE RESULTS OF STUDIES OF THE MICRO STRUCTURE OF SLAG CEMENTS, WHICH HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT BY CERILH. THESE STUDIES DEALT WITH: (1) THE HYDRAULIC PROPERTIES OF TWO SLAGS WHICH DIFFER IN THEIR STATE OF VITRIFICATION; (2) THE NATURE OF THE HYDRATED PHASES OF GRANULATED SLAG AS A FUNCTION OF THE ACTIVATING AGENT EMPLOYED; (3) THE HYDRATION OF SLAG CEMENTS; (4) THE RESISTANCE OF SLAG CEMENTS TO SEAWATER. ALTHOUGH CONTAINING LESS LIME BUT MORE SILICATES AND ALUMINIUM THAN PORTLAND CLINKERS, THE VITREOUS SLAGS ARE HYDRAULIC FROM THE TIME THEY ARE ACTIVE. THE RATE OF HYDRATION OF GRANULATED SLAG IS SLOWER THAN THAT OF PORTLAND CEMENT. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE SLAG CEMENTS HAVE HIGH RESISTANCE TO CHEMICAL AGGRESSION.
