THE BRIDGE OVER THE PAOUTAS RAVINE COMPRISES A THREE-SPAN CONCRETE BOX GIRDER WITH VARIABLE INERTIA; THREE CONTINUOUS SPANS MEASURE 208 M, THE CENTRAL SPAN BEING 120 M AND THE OTHERS 44 M. THE STRUCTURE WHICH SPANS A GAP OF 50 M IN DEPTH AT AN ALTITUDE OF 1150 M, IS COMPOSED OF A CURVE OF 200 M RADIUS WITH SUPER ELEVATION AND A LONGITUDINAL SLOPE OF 3%. THE ARTICLE GIVES THE DETAILED CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS STRUCTURE, WHICH WAS CONSTRUCTED ON FALSEWORK FOR THE TWO SECONDARY SPANS AND HAS SECTIONS CAST-IN-SITU IN SLIDING FORMWORK FOR THE CENTRAL SPAN. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE DIFFICULTIES EXPERIENCED IN THE CONSTRUCTION, THE ALTITUDE AND LOW TEMPERATURES, QUALITY OF THE AGGREGATES, AND BASIC HYPOTHESES OF CALCULATION WHICH TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE FORCES ARISING FROM THE TORSION IN A CURVED BRIDGE CONSTRUCTED BY SUCCESSIVE CANTILEVERED BEAMS.
