FILLING OF MINES AND CAVES

REMBLAYAGE DES MINES ET CAVERNES

FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS A SCORE OF UNDERGROUND FILL OPERATIONS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT BY MEANS OF NEW METHODS. THESE SITES WERE: FILLING OF MINES AND CAVES WITH A VIEW TO ULTERIOR CONSTRUCTION; FILLING OF CAVE-IN OR FRACTURE ZONES; BUTTRESSING OR STRENGTHENING OF TUNNELS; STRENGTHENING OF OLD MINES; CREATION OF DYKES AND MARINE DYKES; PROPPING OF UNDERWATER PLATFORMS; FILLING OF OLD DRAINS. THE WORK UNDERTAKEN BY SOLETANCHE HAS INVOLVED NEW PRODUCTS AND CONSTRUCTIONAL PRINCIPLES: (A) USE OF GROUT INCORPORATING A VERY SMALL QUANTITY OF DRY MATERIAL; (B) DIFFERENTIATION BETWEEN CAVITIES WITH SOUND WALLS AND THOSE WITH FRACTURED WALLS; DEPENDING ON WHICH CLASS THEY BELONG, STRUCTURES ARE TREATED WITH FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT PRODUCTS (FLUIDS IN THE FIRST CASE, FILLING PRODUCT IN THE SECOND CASE).
