FORECAST OF CONCRETE STRUCTURE FAILURE BY USING THE MECHANICS OF FAILURE

PREVISION DE LA RUPTURE DES STRUCTURES EN BETON PAR LA MECANIQUE DE LA RUPTURE - THESE DE 3EME CYCLE

THE APPLICATION OF FAILURE MECHANICS TO CONCRETE OFFERS A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO PROBLEMS RESULTING FROM CRACKING IN STRUCTURES. AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO FORECAST THE ULTIMATE LOADS THAT FISSURED CONCRETE STRUCTURES CAN WITHSTAND, WHATEVER THE ORIGIN OF THE CRACKS. THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS ARE INVESTIGATED: (1) ORIGINS OF CRACKS, PROBLEMS ARISING FROM CRACKS, PAST TRENDS IN RESEARCH INTO CONCRETE CRACKING, THE MECHANICS OF FAILURE AND ITS APPLICATION TO CONCRETE; (2) FAILURE MECHANICS; (3) ITS APPLICATION TO CONCRETE; (4) FINITE ELEMENT METHOD CALCULATIONS; (5) TESTS; (6) RESULTS.
