MANUAL FOR STATISTICAL QUALITY CONTROL IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION

IN THE 1960'S THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SET UP A PROGRAMME FOR ESTABLISHING PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS BASED ON STATISTICS, WHEN RANDOM SAMPLING WAS INTRODUCED. THE FIRST EXPERIMENTAL PROJECTS FOR ASPHALTIC CONCRETE WERE DETERMINED IN 1974, THEN THOSE FOR OTHER MATERIALS FOLLOWED. DURING THE FIRST STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT OF THIS PLAN, IT WAS OBSERVED THAT FOR GOING FROM THE CONVENTIONAL ACCEPTANCE SYSTEM TO STATISTICAL CONTROL, TRAINING AND RECYCLING OF THE PERSONNEL WERE NECESSARY. THIS MANUAL GIVES GUIDELINES FOR THIS TRAINING.
