USE OF FINE STABILIZED SOIL IN PAVEMENT LAYERS

UTILISATION DE SOLS FINS TRAITES EN ASSIES DE CHAUSSEES

TWO EXPERIMENTAL SITES WERE SET UP IN 1974 AND 1975 IN THE REGION OF LILLE: THE AIM WAS TO FOLLOW UP THE BEHAVIOUR OF A PAVEMENT, THE SUBBASE OF WHICH CONSISTED OF SILT STABILIZED IN-SITU WITH LIMESTONE AND CEMENT INSTEAD OF CONVENTIONAL MATERIAL. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE EXPERIMENTAL SECTIONS, PAVEMENT DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION, THE CONDITIONS OF THE LATTER BEING SOMETIMES DIFFICULT. THE RESULTS OF IN-SITU CONTROLS, IN PARTICULAR THOSE CONCERNING COMPACTION, SHOW THE PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED. THOSE SECTIONS WERE SUBJECTED TO REGULAR CONTROLS OVER A PERIOD OF A YEAR (DEFLECTION MEASUREMENTS, RADIUS OF CURVATURE PRODUCTS, CORE SAMPLING, VIBRATOR). THE RESULTS RECORDED AFTER THIS PERIOD OF TESTS ARE ENCOURAGING IN SPITE OF THE PROBLEMS MENTIONED ABOVE.
