QUASI-STATIC APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM OF RIGID-PLASTIC LIMIT DESIGN

APPROCHE QUASI-STATIQUE DU PROBLEME D'ANALYSE LIMITE RIGIDE-PLASTIQUE

THIS QUASI-DIRECT METHOD OFFERS AN APPROACH TO THE NON-LINEAR PROBLEM OF RIGID-PLASTIC LIMIT DESIGN. THE METHOD COMBINES HILL'S THEORETICAL PRINCIPLE OF STATISTICALLY PERMISSIBLE FIELDS OF STRESS WITH THE EQUILIBRIUM OF THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD. IT SEEMS POSSIBLE TO TRANSFORM THE PROBLEM OF THE STUDY OF THE BEARING CAPACITY OF A MEMBER OF ANY SHAPE INTO A SERIES OF PROBLEMS OF LINEAR ELASTICITY WHERE THE SAME EXISTING ELASTICITY FINITE ELEMENT PROGRAM CAN BE USED. IN THIS CASE AN "AVERAGE CRITERION" (WHICH STIPULATES THAT FLOW OCCURS WHEN THE AVERAGE DENSITY REACHES A LIMIT VALUE) MUST BE INTRODUCED. THE LAST PART OF THE ARTICLE OUTLINES THE ITERATIVE COMPUTERIZED CALCULATION METHOD BASED ON THIS QUASI-STATIC APPROACH.
