THE URBAN SECTION OF THE EASTERN MOTORWAY (A4)

LA SECTION URBAINE DE L'AUTOROUTE DE L'EST (A4)

THIS SECTION OF URBAN MOTORWAY IS ABOUT 13 KM LONG WITH DUAL 5-LANE AND 4-LANE CARRIAGEWAYS. IT HAS 11 INTERCHANGES WITH THE LOCAL ROADS OF THE 8 BOROUGHS THROUGH WHICH IT PASSES. THE MAIN DIFFICULTIES OF THE PROJECT WERE ALIGNMENT, DISPLACEMENT OF PIPE MAINS, MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC FLOW, LAND ACQUISITION, AND CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT. SOME OF THE MAIN FEATURES WERE: A SUPERELEVATION OF 2.8 M FROM RN4, CAST-IN-PLACE SEGMENTS, THE GRASSED COVER AT THE CHAMPIGNY CROSSING, TREE PLANTING, AND THE DISPLACEMENT OF SOME SPORTING FACILITIES. THE TWO PRINCIPAL STRUCTURES ON THIS SECTION ARE THE CANADIAN VIADUCT WHICH CLIMBS THE EDGE OF VINCENNES WOODS, AND THE JOINVILLE BRIDGE, OVER 250 M LONG, WHICH IS AN EXTENSION OF 420 M LONG VIADUCT.
