THE FIRST CHAPTER LISTS THE FOLLOWING TECHNIQUES USED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, DESCRIBES THE MODES OF OPERATION AND ANALYSES THEIR ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES: (1) THE CALIFORNIA METHOD (SHORT UNREINFORCED SLABS WITHOUT DOWELS); (2) DOWELLED SLABS; AND (3) CONTINUOUSLY REINFORCED CONCRETE. THE SECOND CHAPTER PRESENTS AN INVENTORY AND AN EVALUATION OF FRENCH STRUCTURES BUILT OVER THE LAST 15 YEARS ON THE BASIS OF RECENT OR CURRENT STUDIES, AND INDICATES SOME GRAVE SHORTCOMINGS IN DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION, DRAINAGE, QUALITY OF MATERIALS, LOAD TRANSFER, AND THICKNESSES. CHAPTER 3 DISCUSSES TECHNICAL, ECONOMIC AND PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS WHICH WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO A REORIENTATION OF FRENCH POLICY.
