COMPARISON OF THE THEORETIC AND EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS FROM A STUDY OF RESONANCE PHENOMENA IN THE GROUND-SEISMOGRAPH SYSTEM

SRAVNENIE REZUL'TATOV TEORETICHESKOGO I EHKSPERIMENTAL'NOGO ISSLEDOVANIYA REZONANSNYKH YAVLENIJ V SISTEME POCHNA-SEJSMOGRAF

A THEORETICAL STUDY HAS BEEN MADE OF THE EFFECT OF THE FOLLOWING PARAMETERS ON THE RESONANCE PROPERTIES OF THE GROUND/SEISMOGRAPH SYSTEM: DENSITY AND RATE OF WAVE PROPAGATION OF THE SOIL; AND THE WEIGHT AND AREA OF THE BASE OF THE SEISMOGRAPH. A COMPARISON WAS MADE BETWEEN THE RESONANCE CURVES (PHASE AND AMPLITUDE) OBTAINED THEORETICALLY, AND THOSE OBTAINED EXPERIMENTALLY, SHOWING A LARGE MEASURE OF AGREEMENT. THE EFFECT OF RESONANCE ON SEISMIC RECORDING RATES IS DISCUSSED, AND A SIMPLE DIAGRAMATIC METHOD IS SHOWN FOR CALCULATING THE OPTIMUM RATIO BETWEEN THE WEIGHT AND AREA OF THE BASE OF THE SEISMOGRAPH FOR WHICH THE RESONANCE WOULD BE AT ITS WEAKEST, AND FOR WHICH THE CONDITIONS FOR PLACING THE APPARATUS DEPENDS VERY LITTLE ON THE RATE OF LONGITUDINAL WAVE PROPAGATION IN, AND THE DENSITY OF, THE ROCK.
