THIS IS THE LARGEST LAUNCHED BRIDGE IN THE WORLD, COMPRISING 23 SPANS OF 45 M EACH IN A TOTAL LENGTH OF 1035 M. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE DECK WHICH CONSISTS OF A CONTINUOUS, CONSTANT INERTIA, PRESTRESSED CONCRETE CAISSON, AND OF THE PILES WHICH VARY IN HEIGHT FROM 25 TO 45 M. THE FOUNDATIONS ON THE BANKS ARE SQUARE SPREAD FOOTINGS, AND DEEP PILED FOUNDATIONS WERE USED FOR THE CENTRAL PILES OF WHICH THERE WERE THREE TYPES: CAST-IN-PLACE PILES, DRIVEN METAL PILES AND PREFABRICATED REINFORCED CONCRETE PILES. A DESCRIPTION IS GIVEN OF THE ABUTMENTS, THE DECK CONSTRUCTION AND THE EQUIPMENT USED, AND OF THE DIFFICULTIES ENCOUNTERED AFTER LAUNCHING AND BEFORE PLACEMENT ON THE FINAL SUPPORTS. THE LAUNCH METHOD ENABLED A VERY RAPID COMPLETION OF THE STRUCTURE.
