UTILISATION DE L'ENDUIT SUPERFICIEL SUR CHAUSSEE AUTOROUTIERE - APPLICATION SUR CHAUSSEE EN BETON DE CIMENT

THIS ARTICLE IS A FOLLOW UP OF THE ARTICLE PUBLISHED IN REV GEN ROUTES AERODR, JULY/AUGUST 1974, SEE IRRD ABSTRACT NO 102286. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE EVOLUTION IN AND NEW RESULTS OBTAINED WITH SURFACE DRESSINGS IN 1975. THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS ARE STUDIED: (1) EMBEDMENT AND PUNCHING OF CHIPPINGS DUE TO TRAFFIC. STUDY CARRIED OUT BY THE REGIONAL LABORATORY IN AUTUN; (2) BEHAVIOUR OF THE DRESSING LAID ON CONCRETE: (A) LACK OF BLEEDING BUT HIGH NOISE, (B) RESIDUAL REJECT, (C) RESISTANCE TO SNOW PLOUGH BLADES, (D) ROLE OF COMPACTION IN THE LAYING OF THE DRESSING, (E) BRITTLENESS OF THE DRESSING UNDER HEAVY LORRY BRAKING; (3) INSTANTANEOUS ADHESION OF CHIPPINGS. FOLLOWING TESTS CONDUCTED IN 1974 AND 1975, SURFACE DRESSINGS WERE USED ON A LARGE SCALE IN 1976 ON MOTORWAY RIGID PAVEMENTS. THE TESTS ALSO SHOW GAPS IN KNOWLEDGE REGARDING THE SUPPORT OF THE BITUMINOUS DRESSING, THE HARDNESS OF WHICH MUST BE CHARACTERIZED AS A FUNCTION OF THE TRAFFIC.
