POLYESTER RESIN CONCRETE CONTAINING EXPANDED SHALE FOR USE IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION

THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES PART OF THE PRELIMINARY STUDY OF POLYESTER RESIN CONCRETE WITH LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATES USED ON THE EXPERIMENTAL SITE IN EGLETONS (CORREZE). THE OBJECTIVE WAS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A RELATIVELY POROUS TYPE OF CONCRETE WITH GOOD MECHANICAL STRENGTH AND SATISFACTORY PHYSICAL PROPERTIES. TESTS ON MIX-DESIGN SHOWED THAT THERE EXISTS AN OPTIMUM SAND/LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE RATIO, AND A DESIRABLE PROPORTION OF RESIN FOR THE GIVEN REQUIREMENTS (MECHANICAL STRENGTH, SURFACE TEXTURE, OVERALL COST) OF A GIVEN PAVEMENT.
