A STUDY OF COLD-COATED ASPHALTIC CONCRETE SURFACINGS, IMPERMEABLE TO WATER, FOR THE LENIN CANAL AT KARAKOUM

ISSLEDOVANIE KHOLODNOJ ASFAL'TOVOJ GIDROIZOLYATSII DLYA GIDROTEKHNICHESKIKH SOORUZHENIJ KRAKUMSKOGO KANALA IMENI VI LENINA

THIS PAPER DEALS WITH THE SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR CONSTRUCTING HYDRAULIC STRUCTURES IN TURKMENIA: HEATING OF SURFACINGS UP TO 70 DEC C AND THE EFFECTS OF CONCENTRATED SALINE SOLUTIONS, LEADING TO THE FORMATION OF CRYSTALS IN ZONES WITH VARIABLE WATER LEVELS. FOLLOWING A COMPARISON OF VARIOUS SEALING PRODUCTS, THE MASTIC "KHAMASTIC" WITH A COLD MIX BASE WITH EMULSIFIERS AND LOCAL FILLERS (LIMESTONE LOESS AND EOLIAN SANDS) WAS CHOSEN. THE RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF THE MASTIC ENSURE THAT IT IS SUFFICIENTLY STABLE WHEN SUBJECTED TO HEAT, ITS RESISTANCE TO CORROSION MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO USE IT IN WATERS WITH A HIGH SALT CONTENT. XRAY STUDY ENABLED THE RESISTANCE OF THE PRODUCT TO SULPHATES TO BE EXAMINED. THE SURFACE AREA OF THE SURFACES TREATED FOR THE FOURTH STAGE OF THE CONTRACT EXCEEDED 600000 SQ M. THE USE OF THIS MASTIC APPEARS VERY INTERESTING BOTH FROM THE ECONOMICAL AND TECHNICAL POINT OF VIEW. PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS ARE GIVEN FOR ITS USE.
