A STUDY OF THE MECHANICAL ROLE OF TRANSVERSE REINFORCEMENT IN STRUCTURES COMPOSED OF ROWS OF PRECAST PRESTRESSED CONCRETE JOISTS COVERED WITH A CAST-IN-SITU SLAB

ETUDE DU ROLE MECANIQUE DES ARMATURES DE LIAISON DANS LES POUTRELLES FILEES PRECONTRAINTES PREFABRIQUEES COMPLETEES PAR UN HOURDIS COULE EN PLACE

IN DECKS COMPOSED OF PRECAST PRESTRESSED CONCRETE JOISTS THE TRANSVERSE REINFORCEMENT HAS THE FUNCTION OF LINKING THE JOISTS WITH THE IN-SITU COMPRESSION SLAB. THIS GIVES RISE TO DIFFICULTIES IN THE FABRICATION STAGE; THIS REINFORCEMENT IS DESIGNED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REGULATIONS CCBA 68. THE AIM OF THIS STUDY IS TO SEE IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO OMIT THIS TYPE OF REINFORCEMENT IN CERTAIN ZONES AND TO REDUCE ITS QUANTITY AND THEREFORE ITS PRICE, BY EVALUATING EXPERIMENTALLY THEIR ACTUAL SAFETY FACTOR WITH REGARD TO FAILURE. TESTS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT ON EIGHT SPECIMENS, SUBJECTED TO CIRCULAR BENDING, WHICH CONTAIN VARYING PROPORTIONS OF TRANSVERSE REINFORCEMENT.
