CROSSING OF THE MESOZOIC ZONE BY THE SAINT-GOTHARD HIGHWAY TUNNEL

LE FRANCHISSEMENT DE LA ZONE MESOZOIQUE PAR LE TUNNEL ROUTIER DU SAINT-GOTHARD

THE SAINT-GOTHARD TUNNEL WAS BUILT ACCORDING TO THE GERMAN METHOD. IT HAS FOUR VENTILATION TUNNELS. THE TUNNEL GOES THROUGH THE AARE MASSIF AND THE SAINT-GOTHARD MASSIF. THIS ARTICLE DEALS WITH THE NORTHERN PART OF THE SAINT-GOTHARD MASSIF, WHICH CONSISTS OF JURASSIC, TRIASSIC AND PERMOCARBONIFEROUS SEDIMENTS. THE PLAN ENVISAGES THE CONSTRUCTION OF TWO PARALLEL TUBES, THE FIRST BEING BUILT AT THE PRESENT TIME. A SAFETY GALLERY, 30 M AWAY FROM THE TUNNEL, IS SITUATED IN THE AXIS OF THE FUTURE SECOND TUNNEL. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE SAFETY GALLERY (INJECTION AND SUPPORT), THE ROAD TUNNEL (SELECTION OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS AND TYPE OF PROFILE, SIDE GALLERIES, CONCRETING OF THE SIDEWALLS, ETC).
