CHOICE OF SCREENING EQUIPMENT FOR SAND FOR AN INSTALLATION IN LORRAINE

CHOIX DE MATERIEL DE TRAITEMENT DE SABLES SUR UNE INSTALLATION EN LORRAINE

THE MOSELLE AND MEURTHE VALLEYS CAN BE DIVIDED INTO SEVERAL SECTORS. IN THE MOSELLE, UPSTREAM OF PONT ST VINCENT, THE PERCENTAGE OF UNGRADED SAND IS THE LOWEST, WHEREAS IT IS HIGHER IN THE MEURTHE. THE PERCENTAGE OF MATERIAL GREATER THAN 20 MM ABLE TO BE CRUSHED IS AT ITS MAXIMUM IN THE MOSELLE, UPSTREAM OF PONT ST VINCENT. THE PERCENTAGE OF LIMESTONE IS ALWAYS LOWER. THE IRREGULAR REGIME OF THE MOSELLE PRODUCES NOTABLE VARIATION IN PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION AND THE SAND IS LACKING IN FINES. THE SAND WHEEL HAS GENERALLY BEEN USED FOR SCREENING: HOWEVER THE COMBINATION WITH THE CYCLONE AND VIBRATING SCREEN HAS BEEN TRIED. THE CYCLONE PRODUCES BETTER RECOVERY FOR THE SMALLER FRACTION. THE SAND WHEEL TREATMENT PRODUCES A MATERIAL WITH A LOW SAND EQUIVALENT. THE CHOICE OF TREATMENT MUST TAKE 3 FACTORS INTO ACCOUNT: QUALITY OF THE RANDOM MATERIAL (PROPERTIES AND PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION OF THE FINES), QUALITY OF THE GRADED SAND AND MANUFACTURING COST. CONSIDERING THAT THE SAND IS GENERALLY CLEAN AND THE PERCENTAGE OF PARTICLES LESS THAN 400 MICRON IS SUFFICIENTLY HIGH (HENCE THE INTEREST IN THEIR RECOVERY), THE SOLUTION WHICH SEEMS TO BE MOST ECONOMIC IS THAT WHICH USES THE SAND WHEEL AND THE CYCLONE WORKING ON THE OVERFLOW FROM THE WHEEL.
