APPLICATION OF A MAGNETIC TELLURIC METHOD TO SITE INVESTIGATION

APPLICATION D'UNE METHODE MAGNETO-TELLURIQUE A LA RECONNAISSANCE DES SITES

DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF A MODIFIED MAGNETO-TELLURIC METHOD OF GEOPHYSICAL INVESTIGATION SPECIALLY ADAPTED TO SUBSOIL STUDIES. IT USES RADIO TRANSMITTERS IN THE LONG WAVE BAND. THE ORIGINAL FEATURE OF THE DEVICE IS THE TELLURIC SENSOR WITH CAPACITATIVE ELECTRODES. THE CALIBRATION NECESSARY FOR CALCULATING THE RESISTIVITY IS DESCRIBED. THE FOLLOWING SITES WERE INVESTIGATED: SITE AT BELLARY WHERE A GOOD AGREEMENT WAS OBTAINED BETWEEN TERRESTRIAL-MAGNETIC MEASUREMENTS AND ELECTRICAL SOUNDING MEASUREMENTS; SITE IN THE MORVAN: REFERENCE MECHANICAL DRILLING WAS CARRIED OUT TO DEFINE THE DEPTH OF THE LIMIT BETWEEN SOUND GRANITE AND WEATHERED SOIL. ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE HIGH SPEED AT WHICH MEASUREMENTS ARE TAKEN COMPARED WITH THOSE OBTAINED WITH THE WENNER DEVICE; DETECTION OF COMMUNICATING WELLS. RESULTS OF THESE STUDIES SHOW THE EFFICIENCY OF THE METHOD.
