RADIOACTIVE TRACERS FOR STUDYING METHODS OF PRODUCING SURFACE DRESSINGS

LES TRACEURS RADIOACTIFS POUR L'ETUDE DES MOYENS DE REALISATION DES ENDUITS SUPERFICIELS

THIS ARTICLE SUMMARIZES: (1) THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CONTROL METHOD FOR THE SPREADING OF THE BINDER DURING THE LAYING OF SURFACE DRESSINGS. A RADIOACTIVE TRACER, INDIUM 113 M, IS ADDED TO THE BITUMINOUS BINDER WHICH IS THEN SPREAD NORMALLY. A CALIBRATED DETECTOR MEASURES THE RADIO ELEMENT CONCENTRATION FROM WHICH THE PROPORTION OF BINDER IS DETERMINED AND TRANSVERSE AND LONGITUDINAL DISTRIBUTION CURVES ARE PLOTTED; (2) THE EXPERIMENTS CONDUCTED WITH THIS METHOD IN 1974. THE TESTS SHOWED THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FOLLOWING FACTORS: EVENNESS OF THE SUPPORT, ADJUSTMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF THE EQUIPMENT; (3) A PRELIMINARY STUDY DURING WHICH THE BINDER AND THE AGGREGATES WERE MEASURED BEFORE AND AFTER COMPACTION. THE RESULTS OBTAINED WITH BOTH METHODS SHOW SATISFACTORY AGREEMENT.
