DESIGN OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE

LE PROJET DE BETON PRECONTRAINT.

THE APPEARANCE OF REGULATIONS GOVERNING LIMIT STATE DESIGN HAS MEANT THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW METHODS RESULTING FROM THE APPLICATION OF SEMI-PROBABILITY. FOLLOWING A REVIEW OF THE PROPERTIES OF THE MATERIALS, WHICH PERMITS A PHYSICAL APPROACH TO PRESTRESSED CONCRETE, THE NECESSARY DATA FOR THE OVERALL DESIGN OF PROJECTS ARE PRESENTED, IN PARTICULAR, THE NUMERICAL VALUES ASSOCIATED WITH THE DIFFERENTIAL DEFORMATION OF CONCRETE AND THE RELAXATION OF HIGH TENSILE STEEL, AS WELL AS THE RELEVANT DATA REGARDING LIGHT-WEIGHT CONCRETE AND THE ACTION OF TEMPERATURE ON THE HARDENING OF CONCRETE. THE THEORY OF BENDING AND SHEAR OF BEAMS PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE; THE DESIGN FORMULAE FOR KNOWN SECTIONS FOR TYPE 1 PRESTESSING ARE EXTENDED TO TYPES 2 AND 3; METHODS ARE PROPOSED AND NUMERICAL EXAMPLES PROVIDED FOR THE CHECKING OF THE ULTIMATE LIMIT STATE. FOLLOWING COMMENTS ON PURE TORSION OR TORSION ACCOMPANIED BY SHEARING FORCE AND BENDING, BUCKLING IS STUDIED AS WELL AS TWISTING OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE UNITS. A LARGE PART IS DEVOTED TO THE STUDY OF INDETERMINATE SYSTEMS FOR WHICH A PARTICULARLY SIMPLE METHOD OF CALCULATION IS PROPOSED, WHICH RELIES ON MOHR INTEGRAL METHOD. FINALLY, AN APPENDIX DESCRIBES THE PRESTRESSED CONCRETE SYSTEMS MOST USED IN FRANCE, GIVING NUMERICAL DATA USEFUL TO THE DESIGNER.
