INFLUENCE OF THE TYPE OF PAVEMENT ON THE NOISE PRODUCED BY THE CONTACT BETWEEN THE TYRE AND THE PAVEMENT

INFLUENCE DE LA NATURE DE LA CHAUSSEE SUR LE BRUIT PRODUIT PAR LE CONTACT PNEUMATIQUE-CHAUSSEE.

MEASUREMENTS OF ACOUSTIC PRESSURE LEVEL HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT AT A HEIGHT OF 1.20 M FROM THE GROUND AND AT A DISTANCE OF 7.50 M FROM A MOVING VEHICLE AT SPEEDS OF 80, 100 AND 120 KM/H. SIX SURFACINGS WERE TESTED: SMOOTH SURFACE DRESSING; FINE BITUMINOUS MIXTURE; A CONCRETE WITHOUT GROOVING; A SETT PAVEMENT; AN 0/6 - 0/14 SURFACE DRESSING. THE TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT WITH FOUR TYPES OF TYRES; A SET OF NEW RADIAL PLY TYRES REINFORCED WITH WOVEN MATERIAL; A SET OF RADIAL PLY TYRES USED AT 80%, REINFORCED WITH WOVEN MATERIAL; A SET OF NEW RADIAL PLY TYRES REINFORCED WITH STEEL; A SET OF RADIAL PLY TYRES, 80% USED, REINFORCED WITH STEEL. SIMULTANEOUSLY, MEASUREMENTS OF THE LEVEL OF ACOUSTIC PRESSURE WERE CARRIED OUT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE RESULTS SHOWED A VERY SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PAVEMENTS, OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL. THE TYPE OF TYRE IS EQUALLY OF IMPORTANCE FOR CERTAIN PAVEMENTS. THIS STUDY MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE QUANTITATIVELY THE BASIC INFLUENCE OF THE NATURE OF THE PAVEMENT ON THE NOISE PRODUCED BY THE TYRES ON THE ROAD.
