EFFECT OF AIRCRAFT DEICER ON AIRPORT STORM RUNOFF

A STUDY OF AIRPORT STORM RUNOFF CHARACTERISTICS WAS CONDUCTED AT MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, QUEBEC, CANADA, TO IDENTIFY THE POLLUTIONAL EFFECTS OF AIRCRAFT DEICERS ON AIRPORT STORM RUNOFF. THE STUDY INCLUDED MEASUREMENT OF STORMWATER FLOWS AND DETERMINATION OF DAILY BIOCHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND, CHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND, AND GLYCOL ANALYSES OF COMPOSITE SAMPLES TAKEN FROM THE AIRPORT STORMWATER SYSTEM. THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY INDICATED AN ORGANIC LOADING RATIO OF STORM TO SEWER WASTE OF 4:1 DURING WINTER MONTHS. AIRCRAFT DEICERS WERE IDENTIFIED AS THE MAJOR POLLUTANT IN APRON STORM RUNOFF DURING THESE MONTHS. /DOT/
