THE USE OF SALIVA IN THE INVESTIGATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS ON DRIVING EFFICIENCY

DIE ANWENDUNG DES SPEICHELS ZUR ERFORSCHUNG DES EINFLUSSES VON ARZNEIMITTELN AUF DIE VERKEHRSTUECHTIGKEIT USE OF SALIVA IN DRUGS AND DRIVING RESEARCH

IN ASSESSING DRIVING EFFICIENCY AFTER THE TAKING OF DRUGS IT IS IN ALL CASES ESSENTIAL TO DETERMINE THE CONCENTRATION OF THE DRUG AND/OR THE METABOLITES IN THE BLOOD PLASMA BEFORE THE RESULTS CAN BE INTERPRETED. IN THE CASE OF MANY MEDICINES THE CONCENTRATION IN THE SALIVA DOES NOT CORRESPOND TO THE CONCENTRATION LINKED TO BLOOD PLASMA PROTEIN AND USUALLY PROVIDES A BETTER EXPLANATION OF THE OBSERVED PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF THE PARTICULAR DRUG. A SALIVA SAMPLE IS EASILY OBTAINED EVEN WITHOUT MEDICAL ASSISTANCE. A REVIEW OF SOME PHARMACOKINETIC COMPONENTS OF THE INFLUENCE OF DRIVING EFFICIENCY BY DRUGS IS GIVEN. THE USE OF SALIVA ANALYSIS IS AN INTERESTING ASPECT OF FUTURE STUDIES FOR ASSESSING THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS ON DRIVING EFFICIENCY AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE FOR TRAFFIC SAFETY.
