OPERATION CORRIDOR ON THE A1 MOTORWAY. BENEFITS DERIVED

"L'OPERATION CORRIDOR" SUR L'AUTOROUTE A1 BILAN POSITIF

IN 1975 THE NORTH MOTORWAY WAS SUBJECTED TO AN EXPERIMENT NOT PREVIOUSLY CARRIED OUT IN FRANCE. THIS CONCERNED, THANKS TO A SYSTEM OF HIGHLY COMPLEX REGULATION, THE ELIMINATION OF THE 9 KM BOTTLENECK WHICH DAILY AT PEAK TIMES AFFECTED TRAFFIC BETWEEN PARIS AND LE BOURGET AIRPORT. THIS OPERATION AFFECTED NOT ONLY THE MOTORWAY BUT ALSO THE PARALLEL SECONDARY ROADS: THE "SURPLUS" VEHICLES WERE IN EFFECT INVITED TO UTILISE THIS RELIEF ITINERARY PREVIOUSLY PREPARED TO RECEIVE THEM. THIS EXPERIMENT PROVED TO BE POSITIVE. THE AUTHOR OF THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE OPERATION AND ANALYSES THE REASONS FOR ITS SUCCESS, AND CONCLUDES THAT IT OPENS POSSIBILITIES FOR EXTENDING THE METHOD, THANKS TO NEW APPARATUS BENEFITING FROM THE LATEST TECHNICAL PROGRESS.
