THIS NOTE PROPOSES TO DETERMINE THE FIELD OF APPLICATION OF THE ROUNDABOUT IN THE RESOLUTION OF PROBLEMS POSED BY THE INTERSECTION OF ROADS, HIGHWAYS, BYPASSES AND MOTORWAYS. FROM EXPERIENCE IN THE COUNTY OF ESSONNE, IT APPEARS THAT ROUNDABOUTS, USED INFREQUENTLY IN FRANCE, COULD PROVIDE A SATISFACTORY SOLUTION. THE STUDY RELATES EQUALLY TO LEVEL ROUNDABOUTS AS WELL AS SPLIT-LEVEL MERGING LANES OR INTERSECTIONS, BUT THE AUTHOR HAS VOLUNTARILY EXCLUDED ROUNDABOUTS CONTROLLED BY TRAFFIC LIGHTS, WHICH BY THEIR OPERATION ARE IN CONTRADICTION TO CONTINUOUS AND PERMANENT TRAFFIC FLOW WHICH TENDS TO BE PROVIDED BY THE ROUNDABOUT ITSELF.
