ELASTIC ANALYSIS OF PLANE GRIDS BY THE INTEGRATED CIVIL ENGINEERING SYSTEM

THE MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY HAS RECENTLY DEVELOPED, AND IBM IS DISTRIBUTING, SEVERAL PACKAGED PROGRAMS FOR USE IN COMPUTER-AIDED ENGINEERING DESIGN, AMONG THEM STRUDL, COGO, AND TABLE. AFTER BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF ALL, THE PAPER PRESENTS A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF STRUDL. THE STATICAL INDETERMINACY OF GIRD-TYPE STRUCTURES TOGETHER WITH THE EFFECT OF TORSION CONSTANTS ON THE INTERNAL ACTIONS ARE EXAMINED. THE STRUDL GRID SOLUTION SHOWS GOOD AGREEMENT WITH THE GRAPHICAL DESIGN METHOD DEVELOPED BY THE CEMENT AND CONCRETE ASSOCIATION OF LONDON. OBSERVED DEFLECTIONS FROM FIVE PRESTRESSED CONCRETE FLAT-SLAB BRIDGE DECKS COMPARE FAVORABLY WITH THE THEORETICAL VALUES CALCULATED BY STRUDL FROM EQUIVALENT GRIDS. /AUTHOR/
