AUTOMATIC DETECTION OF TRAFFIC OFFENCES

DETECTION AUTOMATIQUE DES INFRACTIONS

AN APPARATUS USING TWO ELECTROMAGNETIC LOOP SENSORS PLACED ALONG THE WHITE LINE WAS TESTED AND OPERATED IN A SATISFACTORY MANNER. IT HAS BEEN USEFUL TO PURSUE SUCH RESEARCH INTO AUTOMATIC DETECTION OF TRAFFIC OFFENCES BY THE STUDY OF DETECTION APPARATUS FOR VEHICLES WHICH DO NOT OBEY STOP SIGNALS. TWO VARIATIONS OF THE APPARATUS HAVE BEEN TESTED, ONE WITH ELECTROMAGNETIC LOOPS GLUED TO THE ROAD, THE OTHER USING RADAR WITH AN ELECTROMAGNETIC LOOP GLUED TO THE ROAD. THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE DIFFERENT APPARATUS TESTED AND PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF THE EXPERIMENTS CARRIED OUT. A DESCRIPTION OF THE EQUIPMENT USED FOR THE DETECTION OF INSTANTANEOUS VEHICLE SPEED AND THE DETECTION OF RED SIGNAL OFFENCES COMPLETES THE REVIEW OF AUTOMATIC DETECTION METHODS FOR TRAFFIC OFFENCES USED AT THE PRESENT TIME.
