CONCURRENCE ET COMPLEMENTARITE MODALES

TRANSPORT IS AN ACTIVITY WHICH PROVIDES SERVICES AND REQUIRES SUCH DIVERSE TECHNIQUES THAT IT IS NECESSARY TO HAVE RECOURSE TO MODES AT THE SAME TIME COMPETITIVE AND COMPLEMENTARY, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT CAPABLE OF BEING SUBSTITUTED FOR ONE ANOTHER IN AN INTEGRATED FASHION. FOLLOWING A PRESENTATION OF THE GENERAL PROBLEMS ARISING IN ALL TRANSPORT SYSTEMS: INFRASTRUCTURE, VEHICLES, OPERATIONAL TECHNIQUES. THE FIRST PART OF THE REPORT DEALS WITH COMPETITION AND THE ORGANISATION OF THE TRANSPORT MARKET. THE SECOND IS DEVOTED TO THE COMPLEMENTARY NATURE AND OPTIMIZATION OF THE TRANSPORT SYSTEM. THE FINAL PART CONCERNS MODAL SPLIT FOR INTERNAL TRANSPORT OF FREIGHT AND PROVIDES TRAFFIC STATISTICS FOR THE VARIOUS MODES. SEE ALSO IRRD ABSTRACTS NOS 105303-4, 105225-6.
