TIME-DEPENDENT FORCES INDUCED BY SETTLEMENT OF SUPPORTS IN CONTINUOUS REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS
AN EXPRESSION FOR THE VARIATION OF REACTIONS IN A CONTINUOUS REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAM SUBJECTED TO DIFFERENTIAL SETTLEMENT IS DEVELOPED BY TAKING INTO ACCOUNT CHANGES IN THE MODULUS OF ELASTICITY OF CONCRETE, EFFECTIVE FLEXURAL RIGIDITY OF MEMBER, CREEP PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE, AND THE SHAPE OF THE TIME-SETTLEMENT CURVE. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS SHOWING REASONABLE AGREEMENT WITH THE EXPRESSION ARE PRESENTED. THE USE OF THE EXPRESSION PERMITS A MORE ACCURATE ESTIMATE OF THE FORCES INDUCED BY DIFFERENTIAL SETTLEMENT, WHICH WOULD BE GREATLY OVERESTIMATED IF SOME OF THE TIME-DEPENDENT EFFECTS ARE IGNORED. /AUTHOR/
