ECCENTRICALLY LOADED CONCRETE COLUMNS UNDER SUSTAINED LOAD
AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE SUSTAINED LOAD RESPONSE OF 10 ECCENTRICALLY LOADED UNRESTRAINED REINFORCED CONCRETE COLUMNS IS REPORTED. PRIMARY INTEREST WAS IN THEIR AXIAL LOAD-MOMENT-CURVATURE-TIME BEHAVIOR. MIDHEIGHT MOMENTS AND CURVATURES INCREASED WITH TIME, AND HAD NOT REACHED LIMITING VALUES AFTER 1.5 YEARS OF SUSTAINED LOAD. TWO COLUMNS LOADED UP TO 160 PERCENT OF SERVICE LOAD BECAME UNSTABLE WITHIN 2 MONTHS OF LOADING. THE HOGENSTAD STRESS-STRAIN DIAGRAM AS USUALLY MODIFIED FOR LONGTIME LOADING UNDERESTIMATES TIME-DEPENDENT CURVATURES FOR A GIVEN MOMENT FOR SMALL SECTIONS. /AUTHOR/
