THIS STANDARD WAS REGISTERED ON 29.8.1978 TO TAKE EFFECT ON 1.10.1978. IT DEFINES THE TEST METHOD FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF RESISTANCE TO FRAGMENTATION BY IMPACT OF ELEMENTS OF AN AGGREGATE SAMPLE. IT APPLIES TO AGGREGATES OF NATURAL OR ARTIFICIAL ORIGIN USED IN THE FIELDS OF BUILDING OR CIVIL ENGINEERING. THE TEST CONSISTS OF MEASURING THE QUANTITY OF THE ELEMENTS SMALLER THAN 1.6 MM PRODUCED WHEN THE MATERIAL IS SUBJECTED TO IMPACTS OF A BALL STANDARDISED IN THE LOS ANGELES APPARATUS, WHICH IS DESCRIBED IN THE STANDARD. THIS STANDARD CANCELS AND REPLACES THE LCPC TEST METHOD: LOS ANGELES TEST (SEE IRRD ABSTRACT NO 2374).
