FOUNDATIONS ON SLOPES

FONDATIONS SUR PENTES

THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH IS TO SHOW THE INTERACTION OF SLOPES AND FOUNDATIONS FROM TWO DIFFERENT ANGLES WITH A VIEW TO TAKING IT INTO ACCOUNT IN THE DESIGN OF STRUCTURES: (A) INFLUENCE OF THE PROXIMITY OF A SLOPE ON THE FOUNDATION BEARING CAPACITY (FOUNDATIONS ON SLOPES OR AT THE HEAD OF A SLOPE). (B) FORCES TO WHICH A FOUNDATION IS SUBJECTED IN UNSTABLE ZONES (PILE DRIVEN THROUGH A COVER OF MOVING CAVED MATERIALS FOR EXAMPLE). THE CURRENT METHODS OF DESIGNING FOUNDATIONS FOR SUCH CASES DO NOT TAKE THE RELATIVE SOIL/FOUNDATION DEFORMABILITY INTO ACCOUNT AND DO NOT PERMIT TO EVALUATE REALLY PERMISSIBLE FORCES. THESE METHODS ARE CONSERVATIVE. THE PROGRAMME FOR 1979 WILL COMPRISE A BIBLIOGRAPHIC STUDY AND A SUMMARY OF AVAILABLE CASES IN TWO REGIONS WHERE THIS PROBLEM ARISES: TOULOUSE AND LYON. THIS WILL HELP TO ORIENTATE OBSERVATIONS AND EXPERIMENTAL SITES WHICH WILL BE USED AT A LATER STAGE.
